Four-Letter Words was written in 2015 for my colleagues at the Crane School of Music, Julianne Kirk-Doyle, clarinet, and Robert Young, alto saxophone. The title reflects the fact that the four movements are Wary, Busy, Lazy, and Edgy--although it may also reflect some of the language used during rehearsals. The work has been recorded twice--first by the dedicatees (with me at the piano) on Robert Young's CD, Hybrid, and later by the Salon Trio (Robert DiLutis, Noah Getz, and Jeffrey Chappell) on their CD, The Salon Sessions.
