Remembering for clarinet and piano (2005); version for alto saxophone and piano (2007)
8-9 minutes
I wrote Remembering for my friend and colleage Raphael Sanders. At the time, we had both lost a parent in the not-so-distant past. I tried to capture some of the experience after the first full weight of grief has passed, when remembering the lost loved one is still sad--but you can also smile at the memory of lighter moments.
A few years later another good friend, a saxophonist, lost both of his parents in a terrible car wreck. I made the version for alto saxophone and piano for him.
