Quiet Man for baritone saxophone (2011)
10-11 minutes
After the Belgian saxophonist Peter Verdonck heard a performance of Mantis, he asked me to write a solo piece for him, preferably for one of the low saxophones that are his specialty. Bass saxophone was a bridge too far for me, so I wrote this piece for bari sax. I don't know Peter well, but I had heard him play--and introduce several pieces--on a program by the Thelema Trio, and tried to incorporate the elements of his talents and his onstage persona in this piece.
You can find a recording of the premiere performance here.
