Later, When I Dream for alto saxophone and piano (1987)
8 minutes
Later, When I Dream was written in 1987 for William Street, at the time a colleague of mine at St. Mary's College of Maryland. The piece is one of three or four of mine that respond musically to various aspects of sleep--without, I hope,
quite inducing it. This work attempts to evoke the state that is neither wakefulness nor sleep--that place on the threshold of dreaming where phenomena interrelate and make sense in ways they never do in waking life.
