Written in response to a call for miniatures for a particular ensemble, Insect Asides is scored for soprano, mezzo-soprano, and baritone voices with clarinet, alto saxophone, viola, cello, and percussion. Each movement lasts a minute or less, and sets a haiku about its title insect.
